Land of Broken Dreams

Land of Broken Dreams
Listen to

I walked in through the open door

Paper posted on the window pane

Tiny cross left up in the baby’s room

Forgotten on that tearful day of reckoning

The ghost of a swing-set, in the tall brown grass

Yellow toy school bus lost in the weeds

Family photo, fell behind the kitchen drawer

Smiling people, don’t live here anymore

This is the land of broken dreams

This is what losing finally means

You reached for it all, but you just couldn’t hold the gleam

… Instrumental Interlude…

I saw a man with a dog by the freeway ramp

Backpack and a sign that just said “anywhere”

Wondering how it all fell in on him

And hangin’ on, to his last best friend

This is the land of broken dreams

This is what losing finally means

You reached for it all, but you just couldn’t hold the gleam

People swarm in now like hermit crabs

Trying each new one on for size

So many stories, so many empty rooms

So many dreams not realized

This is the land of broken dreams

This is what losing finally means

You reached for it all, but you just couldn’t hold the gleam

… Instrumental conclusion
